Transfer Students

Depending upon when transfer students join the Mercer community, they’ll attend a new student orientation experience:

  • Students beginning in the Spring semester will attend Spring Orientation.
  • Students beginning in a summer term will attend May Orientation and are also invited to attend Transfer Orientation and Transfer Check-In in preparation for their fall semester.
  • Students beginning in the Fall semester will attend Transfer Orientation and Transfer Check-In in August.

Transfer Orientation

Transfer Orientation is a one-day session designed specifically for transfer students beginning in the fall semester to acclimate them and their families to Mercer University’s academic and campus resources. Students have the opportunity to meet with a representative from their academic department to review a fall course schedule, learn more about student organizations and opportunities for campus involvement, meet members of the Mercer and Macon community, and visit various offices to complete campus business before the semester begins.

Transfer Orientation Registration

Beginning in March, all transfer students who have been admitted for the summer and/or fall semester by the Office of Admissions will be sent a link via e-mail to complete their Mercer Academic Profile (MAP). Contact the Office of Academic and Advising Services for more information in registering for orientation.

Transfer Orientation Preparations

As you prepare to attend orientation, review the New Student Checklist for other helpful information in preparing for Transfer Orientation.

Final Transcripts

Submit any final transcripts from high school or college to Mercer’s Office of the Registrar for final evaluation. Final evaluation is necessary for all transfer equivalencies to be figured prior to the fall semester. After registering for orientation, students’ academic information will be reviewed by an academic advisor. An academic advisor from the students’ academic department will be in contact via e-mail or telephone to build your fall semester course schedule.

On-Campus Housing Contract

If you are planning to live on-campus during the fall semester, please complete your Housing Contract. Submit your Housing Contract via your MyMercer account. Under the Residence Life/Housing section of MyMercer, select ‘Housing Information’ > ‘Housing Contracts’ > ‘Fall’ to access the contract. Once you have completed the Housing Contract, the Office of Housing and Residence Life will contact you regarding your room assignment.

Submit your Immunization Form

Your Immunization Form should be mailed back to the Student Health Center soon as possible. This document requires students to provide their immunization histories for measles, mumps, and rubella along with the signature of a physician or health care provider. It must be completely filled out and received by the Student Health Center before beginning classes at Mercer.

Review Health Insurance Information

All Mercer students are required to have health insurance coverage. Mercer provides coverage to all its students. Students are billed for the cost of health insurance coverage each semester. If you already have coverage under another policy and do not want to pay health insurance fee, you must complete an online Student Health Insurance Waiver. Carefully follow all instructions found on the Bursar’s Office website as it relates to the fall semester. NOTICE: YOU MUST WAIVE YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE EVERY SEMESTER YOU ARE ENROLLED.

Driving Directions and Parking

Please follow these directions to campus:

  • Traveling from Savannah – follow I-16 Westbound to I-75 Southbound.
  • Traveling from Columbus – follow Highway 80 Eastbound, which becomes Eisenhower Parkway in Macon. Proceed on Eisenhower Parkway to I-75 Northbound.
  • Traveling from Augusta – from I-20 Westbound, follow Highway 129 Southbound, which becomes Gray Highway in Macon. Proceed to I-16 Westbound. Follow I-16 to I-75 Southbound.
  • Traveling from Florida – follow I-75 Northbound.
  • Traveling from Atlanta – follow I-75 Southbound.

I-75 North or South

I-75 Northbound
  • Take I-75 North to Exit #164 (Hardeman Ave./Forsyth St.). NOTE: THERE IS CONSTRUCTION AT THIS EXIT: PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE RAMP.
  • Veer right at the top of the exit ramp.
  • Proceed to the second traffic light. Turn right onto College St. (see further directions below).
I-75 Southbound
  • Take I-75 South to Exit #164 (Hardeman Ave./Forsyth St.). NOTE: THERE IS CONSTRUCTION AT THIS EXIT: PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE RAMP.
  • Take ramp off interstate and follow to the second light.
  • Turn left at the second light, proceed three more traffic lights, and turn right onto College St. (see further directions below).
For All I-75 Travelers (Pick up from College St.)
  • Continue down College Street, around the roundabout, and toward campus.
  • Turn left onto Ash Street at the stoplight.
  • Take the first right, through a gate, onto College Drive Lane. Peer Advisors will direct you to your parking spot in this lot.

Upon your arrival to campus for Transfer Orientation, please follow the orientation signage for parking locations through the gate onto College Drive Lane. Our orientation staff will direct you to the Penfield Large Room.
