Accelerated Special Consideration Program for Pharmacy

Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) offers an Accelerated Special Consideration Program for students interested in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program offered by the Mercer University College of Pharmacy (COP).

High-achieving, first-time college students* enrolled at the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences the opportunity to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) degree and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree within seven years, and gives participants the security of a guaranteed interview with representatives of the Doctor of Pharmacy graduate program offered by the College of Pharmacy on the Cecil B. Day campus in Atlanta.

Coursework Required In Residence

Mercer students who wish to earn Special Consideration upon application to the Mercer’s pharmacy program must complete all of their coursework within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Mercer (“in residence”); no transfer hours are allowed. Students who take college courses at institutions other than Mercer after they graduate from high school are no longer eligible for the ASC program. With the approval of the COP Director of Admissions, dual enrollment, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate credit may be used to fulfill the program requirements, but cannot count toward the semester hours required in residence by the program. Physical education and military science courses also cannot be used to satisfy this requirement.

Declaration of Intent

Students who achieve eligibility for this program at the end of their third regular semester must declare their intention to pursue ASCP status between Jan. 1 and Mar. 1 of year 2.

Required Coursework

Students interested in and eligible for this program must complete the coursework specified for that program (see ASCP Checklist) by August following the third year.

Grade Point Averages

ASCP-Pharmacy participants must maintain overall grade point averages (GPA’s) of 3.0 or higher, as well as 3.0 in all pre-pharmacy math and science courses. Grades of “C” or above must be earned in all pre-pharmacy courses; if a course must be repeated, both grades earned will be averaged when calculating the student’s GPA’s.

*No transfer credit hours after high school graduation; MIDX of 980 or higher upon acceptance.

Mercer University’s College of Health Professions (CHP) offers a Special Consideration Program for students interested in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program offered by the Mercer University College of Pharmacy (COP).

High-achieving, first-time college students* enrolled at the College of Health Professions (CHP) have the opportunity to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) degree and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree within eight years, and gives participants the security of a guaranteed interview with representatives of the Doctor of Pharmacy graduate program offered by the College of Pharmacy on the Cecil B. Day campus in Atlanta.

Students who are interested in this program must submit a Declaration of Intent form for the SCP by March 1 of year 2.
