Mercer University’s Tift College of Education Special Consideration Program provides both Education and non-Education students with professional learning to advance their initial Georgia teaching certificate to a Level 5 or enter the profession as a Mercer-prepared professional P-12 teacher with a Level 5 certificate.

Qualified students admitted through the Special Consideration Program to an Education graduate program are eligible for a 30% tuition discount and a possible waiver of the GACE Program Admission Assessment required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). Eligibility Criteria to Apply to the Special Consideration Program as an Undergraduate Student Majoring in Education

  1. Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Education degree (BSEd) within two academic years of the application to the Master of Education program at TCOE.
  2. Completion of a minimum of 32 credit hours of undergraduate coursework in residence at Mercer University, to include 30 credit hours completed at the TCOE.
  3. Maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at Mercer University. Grades of C or higher must be earned for all Education courses at Mercer, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 required for all Education courses (core Education major
    courses or Education minor courses). If accepted, students will adhere to the academic standards of the MEd program.
  4. Application to the MEd program no later than the first day of the month planned for matriculation into the MEd program: May 1 for Summer and August 1 for Fall. Applications must be submitted through Tift’s online application system. Late applications will be accepted based on eligibility and space availability in existing classes.

  1. Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a non-Education major within two academic years of the application to the Master’s program at TCOE.
  2. Completion of a minimum of 32 credit hours of undergraduate coursework in residence at Mercer University, to include 30 credit hours completed at the TCOE.
  3. Maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at Mercer University. Grades of C or higher must be earned in all courses required by the student’s major and in all Education courses taken at Mercer. If accepted, students will adhere to the
    academic standards of the MAT program.
  4. Application to the MAT program no later than the first day of the month planned for matriculation into the MAT program: May 1 for Summer and August 1 for Fall. Applications must be submitted through Tift’s online application system. Late applications will be accepted based on eligibility and space availability in existing classes.
