Phi Eta Sigma
The Mercer University Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma marked a milestone during Spring 2022, celebrating 90 years on Mercer’s campus. Nationally, Phi Eta Sigma is the oldest and largest honor society for first-year college students, with more than 300 chapters and 700,000 inducted members across the country. Lifetime membership is conferred upon first-year students who 1) have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale at the close of any full-time curricular period during their first year and 2) complete the necessary membership forms. Members are also eligible for scholarships and awards awarded through the national scholarship committee.

Selection and Induction
Mercer’s Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma welcomes new members into the chapter through an induction ceremony each fall semester. During the ceremony, candidates for induction are given information about Phi Eta Sigma’s history and purpose and become more acquainted with the responsibilities associated with their membership. Family members and other guests are invited to attend the ceremony and a light reception to follow.
